Black Stilt

Black Stilt

Himantopus novaezelandiae
South Island, New Zealand - December 2 2018
The Black Stilt is probably the rarest shorebird species in the world. There are only about 100 mature individuals in the wild, although many hundreds captive-reared birds have been released to support the wild population. The bird on the photo is an immature bird.
