Bosque Unchog, Huánuco, Peru - 7 december 2019
In 1995 I tried hard to get to see this bird, but failed. The weather then was as wet and misty as it was this time, 24 years later. We spent most of the day scanning the mountainous slopes and thought we would draw a blank ones again. What a relief when three Golden-backed Mountain Tanagers eventually showed up. These birds are as rare as they are spectacular, with a very small altitudinal range. Former scientific name Buthraupis aureodorsalis.
