Copper Pheasant

Copper Pheasant

Syrmaticus soemmerringii scintillans
Mount Mitutouge, Honshu, Japan - 25 maj 2017
A male Copper Pheasant in the roadside leaf litter.
This shy species was definitely one of our most wanted of the true Japanese endemics. Especially tricky to see in summer and with a reputation of being an elusive bird. So we were of course very relieved when this fine Copper Pheasant male suddenly materialized on the roadside one early morning while we were looking for Serows and Thrushes and other stuff.
