Great Indian Bustard

Great Indian Bustard

Ardeotis nigriceps
Desert National Park, Rajasthan, India - 16 januari 2016
Male of Great Indian Bustard.
Great Indian Bustard may be one of the most endangered birds in the world, with possibly fewer than 200 individuals left. These are distributed in widely scattered subpopulations and are decreasing rapidly in numbers. Sadly no real efforts seems to be underway to save the birds. It took us more than 2 days to find 2 birds in degraded habitat of sheep grazing and cultivated land. The birds were shy and seen several hundreds of meters away in the heat of the day.
