Spectacled Eider
Somateria fischeri
Barrow, Alaska, USA - June 19 2016
Male of Spectacled Eider.
I have been longing to see the Spectacled Eider for as long I can remember and also became my #4100 photographed bird species. They were found quite readily just outside the town of Barrow, typically 6-8 birds a day. All four eider species have very striking looks (in the males). Since I have now seen them all, I can say that the male Common Eider is the most beautiful and smart looking. The others are spectacular for sure, but mostly weird looking.
