Buff-fronted Owl
Aegolius harrisii harrisii
San Miguel de Urcuquí, Imbabura, Ecuador - November 18 2019
When I started to bird the Andean countries in the mid 90’s, the Buff-fronted Owl was an enigma. It was there, somewhere in the mountains. But no one knew how or where to see it. Nowadays the picture is clearer, and there are now known areas where these handsome owls are not uncommon. This is one of the four Aegolius owls in the world, the same genus as our own Boreal Owl.
