Carnaby's Black Cockatoo
Zanda latirostris
Arpenteur Nature Reserve, Western Australia - August 25 2024
Western
Australia has 5 endemic parrots and two of them are the large, charismatic
Baudin’s and Carnaby´s Black Cockatoos. The two species are so similar that a
close-up view (or even better a photo) of their upper mandible is required for
a safe ID. Since I entered their range only in the last week of the trip, I had
plenty of time worrying about not getting good enough views, but in the end I
was very pleased with memorable close contacts with both species.
