Buff-bellied Monarch
Neolalage banksiana
Palikulo Point, Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu - October 7 2018
Frontal view of a Buff-bellied Monarch.
This very attractive monarch was one of the first specialties that we saw in Vanuatu, not at all uncommon in suitable habitat. It is unique to its own genus and found only in this island nation. We headed to Palikulo Point as our first birding site, primarily for Scrubfowls (we saw one of those here eventually) and could enjoy several birds including this showy male.
