Ouvea Parakeet

A frontal view of Ouvea Parakeet. The Ouvea Parakeet is restricted to the small island of Ouvea and a recent split from the Horned Parakeet on mainland NC. Although a bit remote, the access to Ouvea is quite straightforward with nearly daily flights or ferries. I couldn’t resist to take the opportunity to see them. As they are currently increasing in numbers, they are getting easier to find. Especially so in the north of the island.
