Kagu
Rhynochetos jubatus
Parc de la Rivière Bleue, South Province, New Caledonia - 8 november 2018
A Kagu walking on the dark forest floor. The Kagu is clearly the most unique and iconic bird of the south-west Pacific region, and the taxonomic relationship to any other birds remain unclear. Although an endangered species, with less than a thousand individuals, they are still easy to find in Parc de la Rivière Bleue. They are odd creatures, inquisitive and uttering strange sounds.
